Keep on the Shadowfells – Session 6

2 August, 2008

On with the Quest

With Aecris in hand, our noble adventurers resume their quest to save Winterhaven and keep the Shadow Rift sealed. Heading back to the pressure runes, Korbein bravely volunteers to see what lies on the other side. Leaping across, the dwarf discovers an empty room smelling faintly of rotting flesh and another set of stairs descending downward. Rather than proceed further underground, our heroes decide to return through the goblin lair to explore the cavern into which Fat Balgron, and presumably Splug fled. Read the rest of this entry »

Keep on the Shadowfells – Session 5

A Good Night’s Sleep

After clearing out the goblin barracks and losing Fat Balgron through the hidden exit in his bed chamber, our heroes decide it’s time for a bit of rest themselves. (A decision not entirely unrelated to the fact that they needed to sleep in order to level up.) With a pile of furniture and rubbish heaped in front of the doors, our party sees out an uneventful night. And when they rise the next day, each one feels fresher… stronger… and just a bit more heroic that they did the day before. Read the rest of this entry »

Ecology of the Dragonborn

14 July, 2008

Oi! Here’s a bit of background on Ganak from the D&D lorebooks. Included are a couple new feats he may be interested in…

Myths speak of the birth of the dragonborn, though they differ in the telling. Tales, awe-inspiring and terrifying, tell of the rise and fall of dragonborn empires, the greatest among them lost to a war that is still remembered. And modern dragonborn live according to their heritage, more than one aiming to carve an eternal story into the world’s chronicles.

Ganak: A History of the Name

7 July, 2008

Iksar Nation

Over the next several centuries, the Iksar grew to greatness on the buried ashes of their former masters. They migrated outward across the continent of Kunark and formed five principal tribe-states: Kylong, Nathsar, Obulus, Jarsath and Kunzar. This last tribe-state was led by Venril Sathir, a young and powerful warrior-mage, who raised an unyielding army of undead with the assistance of dark magic.

Sathir and his Kunzar armies conquered and annexed the remaining tribe-states under his rule as the first King of Sebilis, the renamed Iksar nation. In order to build his Sebilisan Empire, Sathir brutally captured and enslaved the Hill Giants, Forest Giants and Froglok of Kunark. Throughout Sathir’s life, the Sebilisan Empire quickly grew in might, power and grandeur. Read the rest of this entry »

Keep on the Shadowfells – Session 4

Legend of the Shadowfell Keep

Ale is distributed amid many cheers and pats on the back. As our heroes settle in Lord Padraig raises his hands and Wrafton’s grow silent. Setting his glass down, Valthrun stands to speak:

“Well done. Your service to our fair town cannot be repaid, and yet I am afraid we must ask for your aid again. The rumors you bring do not bode well. If some dark cult has risen to serve Orcus, they can only be interested in one thing: Opening a rift to the Shadowlands! Read the rest of this entry »

Keep on the Shadowfells – Session 3

A Night in the Wilderness

Having cleansed the caves of the kobold, our weary warriors made camp in the forest and rested for the night. Dawn brought fresh minds and the chance to debate this new information. Irontooth was likely the ex-goblin piled in the far corner of the lair under sundry ex-kobolds, but who was Kalarel? And who was his spy? Where was this rift being opened and how long until the ritual would be complete? Where the hell did Little John wander off to? Oh yeah… and what about Douvan? After a heated discussion, concensus was finally reached: Our heroes would resume their search for their old mentor before returning to Winterhaven. Read the rest of this entry »

Ema’s Charsheets

26 June, 2008

One more Character Sheet resource for you guys: Ema’s Charsheets. I have a trial account going, and at this point I’m not sure it’s worth it. It isn’t quite as automated as I’d like it to be. Still, I’ll be interested to see how it stacks up against the D&D Insider Character Builder when it is released.

For now, however, the free character sheet is pretty nice. I especially like the Dynamic Powers Sheet, which will let you select your specific powers and create a sheet with the info on it.

Sourcebook Updates

26 June, 2008

FYI – For those of you curious about typos, here is a link to the Official D&D Updates page. I didn’t see anything major, but there are a few clarifications that are relevant. For example, Cleave requires the additional damage be dealt to a second enemy, not the one originally targetted. The interupt on Combat Challenge only works against the enemy marked by the fighter, not an enemy marked by any ally. Perhaps a couple other things.
